Ask A Massage Therapist

Do you have a question about massage? Maybe there’s something you’re unsure about that has held you back from experiencing a professional massage? Here are the answers to a common question about massage therapy and spa etiquette. We will continue answering some of these questions every month and feel free to reach out with some of your own questions and we will do our best to answer them in a future post.
1. Do I have to remove all my clothes when I get a massage? What should I wear, or not wear?
No, removing all your clothes is not required. If you are getting a sport massage, shiatsu, or Thai massage, you will remain fully clothed. We recommend wearing loosely fitted clothing for those types of massage. Many locations that do Thai massage will have a special garment for you to change into.
If you are getting a Swedish or deep tissue massage, you will be asked to disrobe to your comfort level.
Many first-time clients leave their underwear on and that is perfectly okay. To get the most out of your back massage we do recommend that you remove your bra if you wear one, although if you are uncomfortable with that, we can work around it. If you don’t feel comfortable disrobing due to religious or other reasons, simply let the therapist know. They can do compressions and stretching over your garments. You should always feel safe and comfortable during your massage, that is why your massage therapist will adapt to your clothing needs.
